Lock down Dairy

Background

I used to work in shanghai for half a year, I witnessed the 3-month lockdown in Shanghai. At that time we didn’t allow to leave our apartment, It was tough for us to leave our block and brought something we need.

The bustling streets of the past are deserted, every day I learn that the sick people around me are taken away for isolation, and people die every day.

  • USA -- April 2, 2020

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York City crematories are extending their hours, burning bodies into the night. The state has started a running tally of all cremations and burials. City officials are surveying upstate cemeteries for temporary interment sites.

  • Japan -- September 5, 2022

In mid-August, a cold storage facility in a mortuary at a funeral home in the Tokyo area was filled with nine bodies, the maximum capacity. All the boards with the names of the deceased had the word “COVID,” as they were confirmed to have been infected with the novel coronavirus.

  • China -- December 22, 2022

The parking lot was completely packed, with a long line of cars snaking around the cremation area waiting to get in. Smoke billowed constantly from the furnaces, while yellow body bags piled up inside metal containers.

The price of saving your life is sacrificing your freedom.

How We Endured the COVID Lockdown

Snatch foods

During the lockdown, I spent my days hunting for produce on various delivery apps. liquidating sales are wildly expensive. Without the need to commute, people set alarm clocks to place grocery orders. The apps start taking orders at, say, 7 a.m. “and by 7:01 all the produce would be sold out.”

A lot of negative information on social media

At one point, a Big White was caught on video clubbing a corgi pup to death with a shovel.

Qin, like countless others on my WeChat timeline, posted the video. His account activity was restricted for three days.

Empty city

Avenues and alleys emptied out; vehicles and pedestrians were replaced by physical barriers and police roadblocks; feral cats rested outside a subway station that used to see daily foot traffic of more than a hundred thousand people; weeds grew on the Bund, a tourist trap along the banks of the Huangpu River.

Forced Covid test

Covid testing from time to time every day

Hungry

Unable to secure fresh produce, many residents lived on instant noodles or rice porridge. Some of them protested with loudspeakers, or banged pots and pans. (In western Shanghai, a political scandal arose when staffers were found eating freshly baked Swiss rolls.)

Loss Freedom

People patrol the public areas of the block every day. All the entrances and exits of the block are boarded up, and the banks of the Huangpu River are forbidden. When we started to think that we could leave the apartment, we found that we could not leave the building. After we could leave the building, we found that we could not leave our block, after you can leave the block, it is found that you cannot leave the district.
